Brass Band

River City Serenade

Grade 3 | 6 Mins

River City Serenade was composed in 1988 to a commission from the Pittsburgh-based River City Brass Band. It was a part of  ‘A Pittsburgh Symphony’, a four-movement suite that the band commissioned over a period of three years.

The transcription for wind band was made in 1992.

The work lilts along gently in 7/4 and 5/4 most of the time and is only briefly interrupted by a slower cadenza-like section in the middle.

It ends quietly, as it began.
